\nStaff alone.\n\n
\nThe supervising practitioner is physically present in the operative or \nprocedural room and directly involved in the procedure. The resident \nperforms major portions of the procedure.\n\n
\nThe supervising practitioner is physically present in the operative or \nprocedural room. The supervising practitioner observes and provides \ndirection. The resident performs the procedure.\n\n
\nThe supervising practitioner is physically present in the operative or \nprocedural suite and immediately available for resident supervision or \nconsultation as needed.\n\n
\nImmediate care is necessary to preserve life or prevent serious \nserious harm. The appropriate supervising practitioner must be \ncontacted and apprised of the situation as soon as possible. The \nresident must document the nature of that discussion in the patient's \nrecord.\nimpairment. The supervising practitioner has been contacted. \n \nAn emergency is defined as a situation where immediate care is \nnecessary to preserve the life of, or to prevent serious impairment of \nthe health of a patient. In such situations, any resident, assisted by\nmedical center personnel, will, consistent with the informed consent\nprovisions of VHA Handbook 1004.1, be permitted to do everything\npossible to save the life of a patient or to save a patient from\n\n
\nRoutine bedside and clinic procedure done in the OR. The supervising \npractitioner is identified.\n\n
