billing and reimbursement in the pharmacy services sector of healthcare, the NDC
in a unique 11-digit formatted number, a zero is added. This number identifies
the labeler/manufacturer, product, and package size of the drug. The first
segment is the labeler code and assigned by the FDA. The second segment, the
product code, identifies a specific strength, dosage form, and formulation. The
third segment, the package code, identifies package sizes. Both the product and
package codes are assigned by the labeler/manufacturer.
