Vanc-Res Enterococcus (VRE) (Reference #1)
Note: This includes cultures positive for prevalence and surveillance
review, including specimens of stool and rectal swabs.

Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecalis and E. faecium are most
common, but we wish to look at all vancomycin resistant enterococci
whether speciated or not. Therefore, it is important to be sure to list all
the places in the Micro Lab package where Enterococcus are found,
either as Enterococcus, E. (sp.), Group D-Streptococcus, E. faecalis,
E. faecium, E. durans, E. gallinarum, E. casseliflavus, etc.

Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococcus (VRE) is a pathogen of
increasing importance. Not only can it cause significant disease, but
also it can be spread within facilities. It is important to capture all
positive cultures for VRE (not just disease). As such, all positive
cultures for VRE will be reported.
