The parasite Cryptosporidium parvum is a cause of water-borne diarrheal
disease. It has gained recent prominence after evaluation of the outbreak
in the greater Milwaukee area in 1993 which is estimated to have affected
<400,000 persons. In addition to affecting HIV-infected persons and young
children, information exists which demonstrates that the chronically-ill,
elderly are also a higher risk group than the general population. We will
