variable VA("PID") which is returned from VADPT or as found
in field .363 (the PRIMARY LONG ID) in the PATIENT file. In most cases,
this will be the patient's social security number formatted with dashes.
However, for patients seen under joint sharing agreements or seen at
DoD facilities, this field may differ.
