This panel includes terms to report results related to continuous renal replacem
ent therapy, including parameters related to the pressures, volumes and rates of
various components in the dialysis circuit, information about the patient's dia
lysis access, and lab results. Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) is ty
pically prescribed for critically ill patients and runs continuously for 24 hour
s/day. This is in contrast to intermittent hemodialysis, which is typically perf
ormed three times a week for several hours. CRRT may be used to remove solutes,
fluid, or both. It is commonly prescribed for patients with acute renal failure
and is also used to treat patients with septic shock.[PMID: 18360553]
