This panel includes terms to report results related to intermittent hemodialysis
, including parameters related to the pressures, volumes and rates of various co
mponents in the dialysis circuit, information about the patient's dialysis acces
s, and lab results. Intermittent hemodialysis is prescribed for patients with ch
ronic renal failure and typically involves three- to six-hour dialysis sessions
three times a week. During hemodialysis, a concentration gradient between the di
alysate fluid and the patient's blood causes solutes in the blood, which would n
ormally be filtered by healthy kidneys, to diffuse across the dialysis membrane
into the dialysate. [PMID: 18360553]
