CRITERIA FOR USE | In Surgery, Trauma or GI bleeding: (e.g. severe tiredness, fainting). The following diagnoses are usually contraindications to transfusion: Iron deficiency, pernicious anemia, nutritional deficiency malabsorption syndrome. Must have evidence of acute loss of 15% of blood volume (1000 ml of blood lost), OR After Recovery from Surgery, Trauma or GI bleeding: Must have a Hemoglobin <8 gm/dl or HCT<24 %, OR Chronic Anemia: Must have a specific diagnosis AND symptoms related to anemia |
