Completion of the Iraq & Afghan Post-Deployment Screen indicates that

this patient has or may have a retained fragment/shrapnel as a result
of traumatic wounds received while serving in the area of conflict.
This is of concern because of the risk of wound contamination and/or
prolonged systemic exposure to potentially toxic metals or chemicals
released from plastics and composite materials found in Improvised
Explosive Devices (the signature wound in Iraq and increasingly in
Afghanistan). The following questions will further define the risk to
this patient and help to determine if further follow-up is recommended.
